Ok, this might be an unusual review since it's not about a keyboard but an accessory I'd usually feature in the Diderot effect section of my editorial write-ups: Clackify's keyboard stand. An awesome gadget by the way, I'd only need about 30-40 more of these to finally display my collection in a much more organized way. :D

TL;DR: Even though it's 3D-printed, the Clackify keyboard stand is a high-quality, well-designed accessory for anyone who wants to store and showcase their keyboards safely and stylishly. The stand is sturdy – even your heaviest boards are no match for it – while cork pads and silicone bumpers keep your boards protected. Featuring dongle and pegboard slots. Available in a wide range of colors and some really nice materials. Prices start at $67 (with the KBDNEWS coupon code).

Should you buy the Clackify keyboard stand? Well, if you happen to own more than one keyboard for some weird reason, you should definitely consider this stand. I'm going to cram as many facts as possible into this review so you can figure out whether this nice accessory is right for you. Check out the full write-up below for all the details and photos – plus the full photodump on Imgur for an even closer look.

Disclaimer

Clackify's Calvin was kind enough to send me this review unit for free, which may introduce all kinds of biases – both negative and positive in my experience. Take everything I write with a grain of salt.

Variants

Design-wise it's mostly the same stand, however, given it's a 3D model, you can ask for removing the dongle slots or even request custom tweaks (for a fee).

The many color variants (15 colors currently), plus the basic, translucent and galaxy materials make this stand easy to match with your keyboards or room/office.

It's available both as assembled and unassembled, the latter simply meaning the cork, bumpers, and silicone sheets on the bottom of the stand are not pre-applied. They are still included with the stand, so this is basically the DIY kit option for price-conscious customers – reducing the final price by $5.

Specs

  • Capacity: 4+1 shelves/keyboards
  • Supporting 7 kg per shelf (the top one 11 kg)
  • Shelf depth: about 16.5cm (6.5")
  • Keyboard protection: cork layers and silicone bumpers
  • Dongle slots (not powered, for storage only)
  • Pegboard slots
  • Dimensions: 320mm x 110mm x 320mm (12 5/8" x 4 3/8" x 12 5/8")
  • Weight: 1,034g

Build quality

Great design and print quality. In the official photos you can clearly see the printing lines, not so in the item I received, at least from the front – maybe on the sides, otherwise only on very close inspection.

I chose the Galaxy Fuchsia material/color variant, and I like it a lot. Very elegant with the sparkling additives. Clearly on the matte side overall, depending on the angle, but still some glossiness and silky glow because of the golden sparks. Photos can't really capture the exact hue and effect, in real life it has a bit more red component compared to most of the images on the product page or here in this article. I'd say more aubergine than fuchsia.

I'm not sure if it's this material, but pretty much this exact color, at least on my monitor.

I do have to mention my one minor issue with this stand: the cork pads peel off when there’s no keyboard pressing them down. Maybe it’s because this thing traveled for a month—probably through some pretty extreme weather and temperature conditions across the Atlantic—but it arrived with the pads lifted at the corners. Pressing them down fixes the issue temporarily, but I’ll probably just need to glue them properly.

Additionally, while the stand is very solid and the packaging was top-notch, it still arrived slightly damaged — purely cosmetic, just two small blemishes that don't affect usability at all.

Features

Capacity

The stand can hold up to 5 keyboards. 4 of them showcased in a proper display position, while an extra one in the vertical compartment behind the main boards.

Pic:

This design is very robust. It shouldn't have any issues holding keyboards up to 7 kg (15 lbs). Yeah, that's the capacity of a single shelf. Most of my "heavy" boards weigh slightly over 2 kg, so 7 kg is more than enough. The top shelf has even been tested with 11 kg (25+ lbs):

Protection

According to Calvin, and this is very obvious, one of the main goals of the stand design was to prioritize keyboard safety.

The stand is very solid, weighing about 1 kg, and it comes equipped with large pieces of nonslip silicone on the bottom to prevent it from shifting around. This thing won't move anywhere for sure.

Pic:

Each shelf is covered with a large cork pad and also silicone bumpers for board protection and slippage prevention. You won't need to worry about scratching, dropping, or knocking over your keyboard.

Dongle/USB slots

I genuinely hate wireless keyboards without a built-in dongle compartment, especially combined with dongles without any label/branding. Not an issue with a handful of keyboards, but definitely annoying with a larger collection. There are some great examples of course – like the soon-to-be-reviewed Womier SK71 Pro with its magnetic dongle compartment lid –, but the Clackify stand offers a handy solution for all the others: 28 dongle/USB slots for ya'. Mic drop. :D

Pic:

Two slots per side on each shelf, plus 6 on each side on the internal shelf. It's a bit overkill I think, but you can store each board's dongle right next to it now.

Pic:

The dongles fit perfectly in these slots in my experience: not too loose, not too tight.

For clarity: these slots are not powered or connected to anything, they are only for dongle storage.

Pegboard slots

Finally, the back of each stand features pegboard slots, and there are even two slots on the sides. These slots match the dimensions of Skadis, and should be compatible with most small Skadis accessories and hooks. (I haven't tested this.)

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • awesome design – functional, cool, and sturdy
  • great material – I love the Galaxy Fuchsia variant, very elegant
  • excellent protection (cork and silicone parts)

Cons

  • The cork pads might peel off a bit – a minor annoyance, but easy to fix

Summary

In my experience, the Clackify keyboard stand is a versatile, high quality, and well-designed accessory for the more serious keyboard enthusiast and collector. It can display 4 of your keyboards (and store an extra one) in a safe and elegant way. The construction is sturdy, the 2 kg boards I call "heavy" won't have any issues with these heavy-duty shelves. Protective layers of cork and silicone ensure safety, with dongle and pegboard slots as extra features. Choose your favorite color, with some nice materials. Price starting at $70.

Availability

You can purchase this great keyboard stand at ClackifyCalvin offered you a 5% discount with the KBDNEWS coupon code.

That means it's available from $70 $67 (basic color, unassembled) up to $90 $86 (Galaxy filament, assembled).

Bonus: Free shipping to locations in the US. However, because of its dimensions, shipping to other countries, especially overseas, can be pricey.
