Ivan (aka ivndbt/rookiebwoy) shared his ObiWanStenobit, an open-source steno keyboard designed to be compact, portable, and cost-effective. With a pseudo-split layout: halves sharing a single outsourced controller.

The keyboard uses a pseudo-split architecture: it is physically split into two halves, but relies on a single microcontroller rather than the dual-controller setup typical of traditional split keyboards – ivndbt.

Features

  • 30 keys, (pseudo-)split steno layout
  • low-profile Choc switches (V1/V2 support)
  • reversible PCB, sub-100x100 mm
  • single controller (Pro Micro footprint)
  • TRRS connectors

The PCB is panelized and kept under 100x100 mm to reduce manufacturing costs:

The provided 3D-printable case is designed to be easily closed and to protect switches and electronic components during transport, making the keyboard suitable for backpack travel.
