Creators! Feel free to tip me off about your keyboard related projects to bring them to 140K readers.

The Goober, designed by Alex Miller aka doesntfazer, is a 30-key hotswappable Hummingbird-like monoblock keyboard driven by a RP2040 Zero.

This was designed to be caseless, although you are welcome to use the files in this repo to have a case 3D printed. Named the Goober because only a goober would use one. It is a very goofy keyboard. The thumbs keys are super "tucky" and it is awkward to figure out a layout. But once you get used to it, it just might become your favorite keyboard! – Alex.

Specs

  • 30 keys, unibody
  • MX, hotswap
  • RP2040 Zero
  • QMK/Vial firmware

The plate is side mounted, so it's relatively low profile for MX switches.

Several more variants are on the way that will be added to the github in the near future:

"Huge shout out to ProtieusKeebs for assisting me in the trackball version."

  • One is a Choc-spaced version with a more aggressive pinky stagger, and fixes the thumb tuck situation.
  • There's an MX version that runs on FAK firmware, uses the CH552g, and has a Japanese Duplex Matrix.
  • One trackball version is called Goobertrax, another one has dedicated mouse keys and 2 EVQ Panasonic encoders.

So there is a lot going on with this layout right now. The first version was not the best layout. But the new iterations are perfect. For me at least. All of these will be in the Goober's Github when they are released – Alex.
