KiiBOOM Moonshadow V2 review
A well-built 75% wireless keyboard in a nice aluminum case: Moonshadow V2 by KiiBOOM.
Published June 23, 2025

This is the second KiiBOOM keyboard review in a short time: the Moonshadow V2, a 75% wireless aluminum keyboard supporting QMK/VIA. Price starting at just $136 $129 – with the KBDNEWS coupon code.
TLDR; Overall, the keyboard is very well built, with a cool screwless "ball catch" assembly method. Tri-mode wireless 75% with 81 keys and a rotary knob. Hefty 6063 aluminum case, gasket mounting, hotswap, MX compatible switches with VIA support make it highly customizable. Thick dye-sub Cherry profile keycaps and light linear switches provide a nice out-of-the-box typing experience – for a great price!
Disclaimer
As always: I received this review unit for free which may introduce all kinds of biases – both negative and positive in my experience. Take everything I write with a grain of salt.
Variants
Three cool colorways: the Silver with Dolchish keycap colorway (grey + light blue accents) is the one you can see in the photos of this review. There's also a black case with orange accents, and a light pink one.
The keyboards come encased in a durable 6063 aluminum shell, which can be finished in either anodized (Black/Silver) or electrophoretic (Pink) options.
Unboxing & Contents
The KiiBOOM Moonshadow V2 came in a very nice cardboard box with cool pastel colors:
Contents: The pre-built keyboard itself with keycaps and switches mounted, replacement PC plate, basic white cable, basic combined tool to remove keycaps and switches, wireless dongle, quickstart guide, some spare switches and caps (for Mac).
First impressions, design language
A love the packaging, and the keyboard is a nice massive CNC alu one. Heavy, sturdy, and the out-of-the-box sound and feel is great. (The LOOP65 sounded a bit better though, at least to my ears.)
The design is clean and simple, including the bottom/weight two-color theme. There's no visible branding on top except the tiny logo on the spacebar:

Layout
With its relatively compact 75% design (ANSI), featuring 81 keys and a metal knob, the Moonshadow V2 optimizes space while ensuring that all essential functions are easily accessible for new users transitioning from e.g. a fullsize layout. Similar F13-ish layouts, while retaining the gap between the F-groups, usually make the overall layout more symmetric too. Well, not in this case – because of the rotary knob.
Many 75% keyboards feature 2-3 less keys, only 79-80. This 75% variant, despite 81 keys, is not cramped at all: the arrow cluster is still easy to locate when touch typing due to the little gap on the left (to the right of the spacebar there are only two modifiers) – so you don't get lost when changing between the home row and arrows. The extra column on the right consists of four keys.
75% means no numpad and no classic navigation cluster layout either, however, you have arrows, function keys, full number row, and five of the six classic navigation keys.
In addition, as already mentioned, the Moonshadow V2 has a nice rotary encoder in the top right corner. It feels aluminum too.
Build quality, structure, case
Solid build quality. The whole thing has a decent mass and feels heavy duty. The mounting relies on gaskets, and the case, at least my silver one, looks fingerprint-resistant.
Typing angle: fixed 7 degrees.
I like the screwless disassembly method, referred to as "ball catch".
Structure & Mounting
Gasket mounting. The PCB/plate/foam sandwich features silicone gaskets, which sit on the bottom case. This design allows for some extra flex and cushioning, which usually results in a softer typing experience.
Plate(s)
FR4 by default, but there's also a frosted acrylic one in the bundle.
The flex-cut FR4 plate enhances the board's flexibility, resulting in a softer touch and altered acoustic properties,Relatively quiet key presses, but this depends on your typing style too, of course. Users find a PC plate included in the box, allowing them to customize their experience.
Plate-mount stabilizers.
PCB
This is a prebuilt keyboard so most of you won't get this far in disassembling it, however, the screwless build makes the process very easy. The PCB is sandwiched between thick layers of foam. It features hotswap sockets and south-facing LEDs. Again, lots of flex cuts.
Additionally, while the defaults stabs are plate mounted, the PCB of this keyboard supports screw-in stabilizers too.
Switch
The board comes with KiiBOOM's Flick switches, which are relatively light (45gf) linears.
- Actuation force: 45gf
- Bottom force: 50gf
- Total travel: 3.6mm
- Pre travel: 2mm
- Housing material: PC
- Stem material: LY
The PCB features hotswap sockets though, so you're not restricted to the factory setup as you can easily swap switches. Feel free to use your personal favorites, or the recent community-favorite switches.
Keycaps
Nice Cherry profile. I love the colors of this variant that resembles the modern Dolch colorway.
The set is dye-sublimated PBT by the way, meaning not the most coveted doubleshot, but pretty nice and thick.
With regards to keycap compatibity, the 75% layout should be widely supported if you opt for a premium keycap set.
Weight
As already mentioned in the KiiBOOM LOOP65 review, the original Moonshadow was the first KiiBOOM model with the multi-color case. The V2's bottom has this nice two-shade aesthetics too. Thanks to the screwless assembly, nothing really interferes with the design.
Sound & Sound dampening
PORON sandwich foam, IXPE switch pads, PET acoustic film, switch socket foam, and bottom foam. Together with its gasket-mounted structure, the Moonshadow V2 ensures a soft and cozy typing feel while delivering a nice out-of-the-box sound quality. Well, this is subjective of course, but I like it personally.
Lights
As you may know, per-key RGB in not an essential feature for me. That said, this keyboard is equipped with south-facing RGB backlighting, creating vibrant and adjustable lighting that boosts its visual allure – if you fancy that. Plenty of colors and patterns.
Wireless
The Moonshadow V2 is a tri-mode wireless keyboard (Bluetooth 5.0, 2.4GHz wireless, and USB Type-C wired connections) with 4000mAh battery. (The quickstart guide indicates 6000mAh, which is probably a typo. The battery in my board is definitely 4KAh.)
Software
Having QMK/VIA support is, I don't know, so reassuring. Maybe it's not crucial for some of you, but for the majority of humanity – typing in multiple languages – it comes in handy.
If the factory settings don't meet your needs, you have the option to customize the base layer, and additional layers as well – after uploading the necessary JSON file.
SpaceFN works as expected. This single layer can be a real game-changer, putting arrows, navigation and numbers under your fingertips.
Portability
The Moonshadow V2 is a great board for your desk, but if mobility is your main concern, I would choose something lighter. :) Sure, its wireless features make it portable, being relatively compact helps too, however, maybe a lighter non-aluminum case is better suited for on the go.
Conclusion
The Moonshadow V2 is another bang for your buck keyboard from KiiBOOM. A clean and simple looking 75% wireless keyboard with great out-of-the-box typing experience. Sturdy aluminum case with cool screwless disassembly, three nice colorways, hotswappable switches, MX compatible keycaps, gasket mounting. Per-key RGB, rotary knob, and QMK/VIA support. I can highly recommend it, however, if you don't need dedicated function keys, feel free to get the LOOP65 – for 50% off at the moment.
Pros
- sturdy aluminum case, excellent build quality, nice colorways
- highly customizable (hotswap, MX, VIA)
Cons
- the dye-sub keycaps are perfect as a start, but this otherwise high quality board deserves a more premium keycap set.
